The Communities In Action area of this website highlights local communities that are being proactive with strategies to promote healthy eating and active living where people live, learn, work, and play. Join the campaign to improve your own and your community’s lifestyle and eating with tips from the American Public Health Association.

The motivation behind this section is to highlight successful strategies in order to inspire other communities to adapt and implement them in their hometown. Apply now to elevate the statewide conversation of what truly works in New Hampshire communities around healthy eating and active living.

Terry Johnson, HEAL Director, describes the Communities In Action site as "an opportunity for all NH coalitions to stay coordinated and for HEAL to link the capabilities of each community while supporting the networking across the state". Find a HEAL community near you!

What it takes to be a HEAL "Community In Action"

  • A community vision to create healthy environments in places where people live, learn, work, and play.
  • An understanding of community needs related to improving healthy eating and active living environments.
  • Community partnership comprised of leaders and champions working together to effect change.

Each community, project and/or initiative will have their own highlighted section including the following sub-categories: Overview, Goals, Accomplishments, Community Partners, Contact, and also a photo gallery.

This is just one step forward in coordinating the effort to make New Hampshire one of the healthiest states in our nation.
